Prestia Resources (Pty) Ltd understands the importance in the role of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the African development process. But, access to finance is a key constraint to SME growth, it is the second most cited obstacle facing SMEs to grow their businesses in emerging markets and developing countries. They are less likely to be able to obtain bank loans than large firms; instead, they rely on internal funds, or cash from friends and family, to launch and initially run their enterprises.
We believe that SMEs can be established rapidly and put into operation to produce quick returns; and they may well become a countervailing force against economic power of large enterprises. More generally the development of SME is seen as accelerating the achievement of wider socio-economic objectives, including poverty alleviation.
In attempting to gain access to financial services SMEs continue to face constraints caused by many factors.
Prestiga Resources (Pty) Ltd has studied and thoroughly analyzed the challenges faced by SME in access to finance. We have concluded that the major obstacle is insufficient collateral, Poor Business Proposals and lengthy processing period.
Prestiga Resources (Pty) Ltd,s approach is holistic, combining advisory and investment/lending services to Entrepreneurs and Businesses to increase the contribution that SMEs can make to the economy including underserved segments such as women-owned SMEs.
When the opportunity is great, we partner with Small and Medium Entreprises for Business Project Assessment, investment/loan processes and support with sufficient and acceptable collateral or we bring direct investment/funding.
DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH
Prestiga Resources (Pty) Ltd was itself the true example of small businesses and Entrepreneurs not getting easily access to funding. At its early foundation, the Company needed about One Million American Dollar to set up its business and administration. We made several loan and investment applications that horribly were unsuccessful. And the only remaining option was to borrow from close relatives and friends. But friends were more discouraging than encouraging.
Because Mr. Bukasa believed into his vision, he sold two of his cars to invest start-up money into Prestiga Resources (Pty) Ltd. The invested funds help to go from one presentation to another, until such times, when private investors start believing in Mr. Bukasa’s vision and joined the Company as backbone.
The hardest thing initially to organize Prestiga Resources (Pty) Ltd was the feasibility of the link between vision (what the Company will look like) and the reality.
Like many individuals or Entrepreneurs, they all do have and create goals and even very good ones, which is very important. But having a clear vision of how to reach those goals often determines a company’s success, or mere survival; Prestiga resources (Pty) Ltd understood that principle clearly and had to address it swiftly and methodically.
